Nissan 40 hp, 1999, fuel starved

I have had this engine "tuned", filters cleaned, am using new fuel and have a new gas tank but it stalls, fuel starved, at more than half throttle. (When this happens, I have to choke it to get it started.) Adjusting the mixture control doesn't help. And yes, my gas tank vent is open. A friend suggests that the problem may be in the fuel line or primer bulb between the tank and the engine. It is the only thing I haven't replaced. Does this make sense?

Maybe. If air can get into the fuel line you loose pressure to the fuel pump. When the engine dies squeeze the prime bulb. If it's not hard...Then your problem is from the fuel pump back to the tank. If it's firm and it really is a lack of fuel problem...then it's from the fuel pump to the reeds.

Thanks Elvin. I tried that and it was not firm so I will order a new fuel line (tank to engine).

I am having a similar problem with my 40C. It starts with the neutral throttle open full but when I try to back it down to idle it just dies. It runs fine full throttle.

Possible...But more likely to be a dirty carburetor.
