I am currently using a 2009 Nissan 8 hp 4 stroke motor for a kicker motor on my boat. I am running the factory 8.5" x 8P 3 blade prop. Overall I am pretty happy with the prop. But, I am curious as to what effects the high thrust 4 blades would have on the performance of the motor (something similar to the T8 or Merc Pro Kicker props). Nissan has an 8.7" x 7P and 8.7" x 5P 4 blade offering available.

Engine never sees WOT. It is used at trolling speeds, typically .8-3.5 mph. The current prop will get me down to about .9 on flat calm conditions. If I could attain a lower speed with the 4 blade that would be helpful. Also, any more control, or bite), the 4 blade would provide for quick course corrections, etc. would be nice. However, I don't want to drastically increase RPM's either, current fuel consumption is minimal at the low RPM range the motor runs.

I just don't know what difference the 3 to 4 blade prop would be. I don't know either if the things I want can be attained with a different prop or if some are not possible. Thanks for the help!

Re: Nissan 8 HP Kicker Prop Questions

Its difficult to figure exact changes when changing design and brands.
And I didn't see an indication of the size of the boat.
The 4 should help manuvering and the drop in pitch should lower speed.
Your motor will be happier if allowed to rev;but a 5" I think is overkill.
