I have a 1995 Nissan 9.9 that cuts out at half throttle. It only lasts a few seconds then cranks up to WOT. I am assuming the carb needs cleaned out. Could it be something else causing this besides the carb? I have never cleaned a carb on anything. Is it an easy process that I could handle myself or do I need to take it to the shop?

If you can turn a socket wrench and and are able to follow the order you took things apart it is easy. Looks for clogs in every nook cranny and hole you find inside. Do not bend things or turn screws that are not part of the disasemble process. 2 stroke engine carbs are very very simple but if your all thumbs forget it and bring it to a pro.

* would check the fuel and tank, hoses, filter and bulb before trying to rebuild

Keep in mind that there are NO carb parts for the 9.9A nor 9.9B. However, there are some bits for the C and D... What actual model is it (not EPA year)? And... if you do want to tear into it, get a Factory service manual.
