Nissan console to tiller conversion

I'm looking at a 2004 Nissan 9.9 hp four stroke motor that is a console control. I'm wanting a smaller motor as a kicker for trolling on windy days and also as a backup motor for Canada trips. I've got a console steer on my boat for my big motor so the Nissan set up isn't perfect. However, I can purchase the motor with tank, battery, controls, for $475. The motor isn't mint but not in bad shape. It just needs some linkage adjustment.
So my main question is....how expensive is it to change a console to a tiller? Is it a difficult task? I'm not an expert mechanic but have above average skills.
Is it worth it? I would appreciate any advise.

Re: Nissan console to tiller conversion

It's a fairly involved conversion, with lots of bits, if you want to convert an NSF9.9EP to an EF. In addition to removing the RC fitting kit and control box... you would need to install the tiller handle and throttle cable/link parts, (and switch from RC drag link to tiller-steering bracket), etc., as well as converting to on-board shifter, and finally installing the push-button starter switch.

You can review the associated parts that differ between the two models in the parts catalog at http://www.internetoutboards.com/Pa...SF9.9B2-15B2-18B2 (2004) - (002N21047-3).pdf

Since you want this as a kicker, maybe it would be more practical to either buy a tiller model, or keep the EP as-is, install the RC box out of the way, and just connect the kicker to the main motor with a tie bar.
