I am considering purchasing a 1999 model Nissan 2-stroke, 40 hp outboard. Having had considerable experience with a variety of other outboards over the years, this would be my first experience with a Nissan outboard motor. I'm interested in any comments/thoughts about Nissan outboards in general as well as an experience with service and durability.

I appreciate your input.

Re: Nissan Marine

I have a buddy who doesn't take care of his very well (only runs at wide open throttle never changes spark plugs and uses crappy oil)and to tell you the truth it has never broken down on him yet. I'm amazed! And His is a 97 model. I would say they are good motors. Just nobody sell them. :D

Re: Nissan Marine

I put a 9.9 2002 4 stroke long shaft on my sail boat with electric start and alternator. So far it has proven to be as good a quality as the last Honda 4 stroke for a lot less. It's so quiet that all you hear at idle speed is the cooling water going back into the lake...

Re: Nissan Marine

Thanks guys. This is kinda what I've been hearing. I do know I'm going to have to get a carb job done because the motor is lugging at higher speeds since it has been sitting for the past several months. Does anyone know if Nissan carbs have an easily accessable high-speed jet that I can remove and shoot some carb cleaner in there to see if I can get the deposits to move out? That is what I typically do to my Merc, but I don't know anything about Nissan carbs.
