I took water pump apart, blades are pliable and gasket is good. At the pee tube you feel air pressure like maybe exhaust or something? I would assume if it was generated by the pump there would be water behind it, but it does nothing.
Rechecked tube inside exhaust housing, no blockage at intake, any other ideas? Fresh water motor has never been in the salt.

If impeller is in good condition, check water intake screens for obstruction & lower water pipe seals condition, water pump key missing ? you should rotate impeller CW when seating top housing...

Clockwise checked, key is in place you can feel the resistance when you turn drive shaft. I'll check the screen again.

If you are getting "air" (exhaust) at the telltale, you are not getting water to the engine base. Could be a blockage, or a weak pump... or inadequate water supply if you are running on muffs. You can put [low] water pressure to the water pipe (inside the exhaust housing) to see if you have good flow from the pump to the motor base. If so, and the intake is in good condition, check into replacing the wp kit.

Thanks Paul. I'm really thinking the pump will need to be replaced as well. I was trying to make do with the old one but I think the blades are set in place too much.
I guess it really doesn't take much to make a large impact in pump performance.

Re: Nissan NS5B no water pumping

I hesitate to post this, but hopefully someone may learn from it.
I made a new gasket for the water pump when I took it apart previously. I had neglected to make an opening in the gasket where the pickup tube feeds into the bottom of the pump. I had all of the other ones there, just missed this one critical passage.
It was uber obvious to me the second I had it apart. It now pumps great!

That's why I like the OEM kit... all the bits are correct out of the box... Glad you got it working :)
