I've always used Johnson/Evinrude, but am considering a new Nissan 40hp. What is your opinion of Nissan?? Do they have a good track record? I can buy one with tilt/trim for a lot less than the others. I will use this motor for both summer for fishing and fall for duck hunting. Thanks

Not much experience with the larger Nissan motors, but their small, 2.5 to 9.9, are as good as any out there. Very reliable.

Howdy, RGibber.

All Nissan badged engines are rebadged Tohatsus.

Tohatsu has a great reputation for reliability and is among the most popular brands with professional watermen world-wide.

They do lack frills, but they start and run and run and run, etc.

Good luck. :)

rgibber34,

THey are good engines. However, I would not buy one unless you are capable of handling all the maintenance yourself. That would include water pump service. The reason being is that dealer service is somewhat scarce.

Otherwise, they're tough.
