I want to remove the restrictor plate on my 03 40HP TLDI to get a little more power. I have been told the plate can be removed from the intake in order to increase power without any negative impact to the motor. In fact I was told this is the only difference between the TLDI 40 and 50HP.

I have gone through my shop manual and see no reference to this part. Can anyone give me some instruction regarding where this plate is and if it can indeed be removed without any ill effects.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Nissan TLDI 40hp Restrictor plate

You've been given some bad info. The add'tl. h.p. between the 40 and 50 TLDI models is made possible by the engine's ECU (the "brain"). You'd have to get a 50 ECU to change your 40 to a 50hp. Very, very expensive and also not allowed by the EPA (it would change the emission rating of your outboard, therefore, is considered an illegal modification by the EPA).

Thanks for the feedback, I was a little suspicious of the adivce considering the fuel management is all electronic in this engine.
