March 29, 2006

(remember, 'underway' according to the CG means any state of flaoting that is not at anchor or tied to a dock.)

Dear BoatU.S. Member,

New Jersey Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew (District 1: Cape May, Atlantic and Cumberland), has proposed a bill (A2212) that would require kids ages 13-15 to wear a life jacket when a boat is underway. Current state law requires kids 12 years and younger to wear a PFD whenever the boat is underway.

No state currently has life jacket requirements for kids older than 12. The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators has written a model act for states recommending requirements for kids 12 and younger. More than thirty states require kids 12 and younger to wear life jackets, while approximately a dozen states have lower age requirements. In the four states where there are no life jacket requirements, federal Coast Guard regulation requires kids 12 and younger to wear life jackets on federal waterways.

We encourage you to contact your local Assembly member with your views on this issue. To contact your legislator, use this link: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/legsearch.asp.

Please share this email with your boating friends.

Thank you,

Margaret Podlich
Vice President, BoatU.S. Government Affairs
703-461-2864
###
PLEASE NOTE: This email was sent to ****************************. I think anybody who takes immature goats aboard should require them to wear PFDs, but on the other hand goats are no longer kids when they (if they?) ever reach 12 years.

Absolutely. I fat-fingered again.
The CG aux class I'm taking, told me that they are certain that within the near future, all people will be required to wear PFD's at all times, like seat belts in cars. Here is the first step toward that. First 15, then 18, then everyone.

Or....

010101000110100001100101001000000100001101000111001000000110000101110101011110000010000001100011011011000110000101110011011100110010000001001001001001110110110100100000011101000110 000101101011011010010110111001100111001011000010000001110100011011110110110001100100001000000110110101100101001000000111010001101000011000010111010000100000011101000110100001100101 011110010010000001100001011100100110010100100000011000110110010101110010011101000110000101101001011011100010000001110100011010000110000101110100001000000111011101101001011101000110 100001101001011011100010000001110100011010000110010100100000011011100110010101100001011100100010000001100110011101010111010001110101011100100110010100101100001000000110000101101100 011011000010000001110000011001010110111101110000011011000110010100100000011101110110100101101100011011000010000001100010011001010010000001110010011001010111000101110101011010010111 001001100101011001000010000001110100011011110010000001110111011001010110000101110010001000000101000001000110010001000010011101110011001000000110000101110100001000000110000101101100 011011000010000001110100011010010110110101100101011100110010110000100000011011000110100101101011011001010010000001110011011001010110000101110100001000000110001001100101011011000111 010001110011001000000110100101101110001000000110001101100001011100100111001100101110001000000010000001001000011001010111001001100101001000000110100101110011001000000111010001101000 011001010010000001100110011010010111001001110011011101000010000001110011011101000110010101110000001000000111010001101111011101110110000101110010011001000010000001110100011010000110 000101110100001011100010000000100000010001100110100101110010011100110111010000100000001100010011010100101100001000000111010001101000011001010110111000100000001100010011100000101100 001000000111010001101000011001010110111000100000011001010111011001100101011100100111100101101111011011100110010100101110

Re: NJ Boaters....

I hate wearing a lifejacket. They pull so tight and wrinkle my dress... I mean they are uncomfortable.
