No click, no start when turning key

After a day out, I came back in to flush my engine, when much to my dismay I couldn't get my engine started. When I turn the key, I get no click, no sounds, no nothing. Tested batteries, both are holding a perfect charge. Starter was just replaced 6 months ago.

I looked at the connections to the starter, they do appear to have a bit of corrosion. My goal today is to get all of those connections shiny and pretty.

Should I be looking for anything else since I am not even getting a click? I have read other posts about a solonoid issue, but the only solonoid I know of is the one that is already connected to my starter.

1995 Mercruiser 3.0LX 135hp

You might also check the neutral safety switch in the shifter (also be sure it's in neutral).
There is a seperate solenoid on the engine that has yellow/red wires going to it.

Don:

Thanks for the input. I'm assuming part C is the solenoid you speak of. What is part D?

Part D is the circuit breaker.

Try hitting the 50 amp reset breaker on the motor.
Also, I see some fuses in the diagram Don S. is supplying. (in the circles)
I even had a line fuse between the red/hot side of the battery on the wire to the started on an old boat.
Just a thought,
Jim

Re: No click, no start when turning key

A is the ignition switch and the circled items are not fuses, they are bullet connectors so you can unhook the wires.
The picture came out of a service manual. Bet you wish you had one don't you.
The OEM manual also explains how to check the system in detail.
Click here and on the nav bar click on "Order a Mercruiser Manual" and for only $35 you can have all that info right in front of you.

Re: No click, no start when turning key

Don:

Thanks for your help. The yellow/red cable that goes to the neutral safety switch had corroded in half at the butt connector.

Now off to find one of those service manuals. I have the Clymer manual and I have no diagrams like the one above at all!

Re: No click, no start when turning key

I have seen 2 Clymer manuals in my life, neither was worth paying money for.
Go to the Mercruiser web site and click on "Order a Mercruiser Manual" on the left side of the screen. $35 each and you have the drawings and details like I posted.
