No Forward Gear

I lost forward gear on my 72 100 hp Johnson. I show 6VDC on the "neutral wire" when the shifter is in forward. It's looking like the shift switch in the control box is shorted. Neutral & reverse are fine. Motor goes into forward when switch is off or if neutral wire is disconnected at the motor. According to the wiring diagram it almost has to be the switch. Before I spend $100 on a new switch, is there anything else I should check?
TIA

Russ In Texas

Re: No Forward Gear

Seems you've done all the troubleshooting ya' need to do Russ. From your post, the switch has gone south...... :(

Re: No Forward Gear

Thanks OBJ, thats kinda what I figured. It looks like the original switch (no splices or joints in the wiring). Who of thought they'd only last 30 years!!!

Russ In Texas

Re: No Forward Gear

If you've just aquired the engine, it's possible that you've got a older straight "Electric Shift" switch installed instead of the required "Hydro Electric Shift" switch.
