Change your gas before you try anything else. It's slow, but you can simply disconnect the fuel line and pump it out with the primer bulb. If that solves your problem, add the gas back a gallon or two at a time with lots of fresh gas and pretend you're only paying $1.05/gal for a while.

You can, but bad fuel can make a bit of a mess of the fuel system too. Really you should throw it out if it's got any water or junk in it but it can be hard to find a place to take it. That's why I usually just look at it to make sure it's clean and then mix it back in. Change the fuel filter when you're done.

Reidsmith, I thought you were trying to find out why your 5.0 only tachs at 3100 rpms. Bad gas usually smells differant. If you think its bad gas, I would syphon gas out, fill it back up, add omc 2+ 4 gas conditioner (follow directions on can) change fuel filter and water seperator filter and give her a try. Just a suggestion

Yup, bad gas. The boat I bought over the winter had been sitting for several months, and it ran like crap until the old stuff was burned off.
