No impeller O-Ring?

I have a 2000 vp 5.0 GI , I replaced the impeller for the first time, and it was original. I could not find a rubber oring, as a new one came in the box with the new impeller, and all instructions say to replace it.
The new rubber oring didn't seem to fit anywhere. Put everything back together, and ran the motor for 20 minutes, and runs great , with no leaks. Is it possible it doesn't take one? Or am I going blind?

Well I'm just going to leave it alone, i must be due for glasses, because I looked, and just didn't see it. Obviously the old one stayed in , or else it would be leaking. So I will keep an eye on it, and if I see any dribbles coming from it, I have a spare oring.

Thanks for the help guys

Dribbles are not your only worry. The pump can suck air through a poor seal and cause an overheat.

I couldn't find my old one either. There is a groove on the shaft that it recesses into, and I literally needed a magnifying mechanical mirror and light to see it in my boat. Keep an eye on your temp next time out, and if it gets up to normal operating temp and stays there, enjoy your boat.
