On rare occasion I let good judgment and common sense influence my decisions. Today was too windy to attempt my first launch. I didn't even hook up the boat. I'll try again on Monday.

Smart move getting off is pretty tough but not as tough as trying to get it back on in a hard blowing wind! You are thinking and that is always a good thing.:)

Good decision...it is always best to rule out the weather when launching for the first time, especially a windy day.

You will learn to hate the wind, it makes everything harder, I fish a river and it seems the wind and current are never going in the same direction which makes it alot of fun to trailer.

Once you get your legs under you and aremore comfortable with the process you can do it but I think you made the right call, threre si enough to do on a first launch without fighting the wind too.

Good for you !!! You will need plenty of those rare occasions as you go forward. As you gain experience with the launching and maneuvering you'll be able to launch in wind conditions, etc.

more boaters need toexercise good judgment and common sense (incl me). Wind is a pain.

You don't say where you are but a lot of people get in trouble on a mild winter day, or in the spring, when the air is pleasant but the water temps are still deadly if you fall over. Or they goout on a sunny day under dressed, have a problem and get caugt after dark, and freeze. It doesn't take much, and once core body temps drop, there goes "good judgment and common sense" as well as coordination.

good job. for me, i found i didn't aquire this set of skills till i was about 50. now i'm 52. it sometimes sucks to have good judgment and common sense. but they sure can be a life saver....

i'll launch in high(er) winds. but i've launched hundreds of times. in the wind. it really changes the game plan. usually for the worse... i've even got to the ramp with the boat in tow only to turn and go home due to bum conditions..

again, i think ya did right too. there'll be plenty of fun in the sun to come. the season is just starting to come this way. a month or so and i'll be thinking about launching too.

I have gone as far as driving down to the ramp, seeing the lake looking too whipped up, and turning around and going home. It's gotten to the point where I know if the leaves are moving at my house, the lake is probably ugly. Launching/retrieving is no fun even for the experience in the wind and chop.

Common sense is not quite so "common" any longer. Good job having "un-common" sense. ;)

I didn't even hook up the boat. I'll try again on Monday.

... still kinda' stinks though, doesn't it?

Hope ya' get to enjoy Monday.

The one thing you could do even if you are not going out on the water is practice launching and trailering your boat. It takes time to get used to doing that with your particular boat/trailer and on those days unless it is pouring rain, you can still at least do that.

That would take alot of fun out of watching the ramps.....

I have a had a few of those "get to lake and turn around" days too. But, before I actually go back home, I sit, wait for, and watch those that didn't exercise the same judgment struggle launching and end up either wet or with some dock "rash" to patch when they get home. Just serves to bolster my decision to "no go" and can be somewhat entertaining. And, I am NOT suggesting watching someone damage their boat is entertaining - but watching them struggle, get flustered, get wet can be rather entertaining sometimes......especially when they finally go out and are back at the dock within minutes. I helped a guy once as he came back. After several passes of not being able to get his boat docked I suggested he throw me a line. After we got him docked and onto his trailer, he said......that's a mistake I won't make again. Some people just need to learn the hard way.
