Hi Guys,
I wonder if you can help my 25 evinrude be25elece wont turn over. I have 12 volts at the solenoid so i know there is power getting to it. The kill cord is on,control box in neutral and i have cleaned and check connectors. I turn the key and nothing happens not even a click.
Any ideas?

Re: No luck?

1. Make sure the ground cable is ok.
2. Check the voltage to ground at the two small terminals on the solenoid, while you turn the key to start. Should be battery voltage on one and zero on the other. If you get zero on both, there is a problem with the key switch or wiring (or fuse if it has one). If you get battery voltage on both, one is not grounded. I assume it has a safety switch (??). If so, there in your problem. The safety switch grounds one of those two small terminals.
3. Problem should be evident by now.

Spent ages on the bloody thing today, the wire going to the fuse had salt going up it in the loom and has split so I sorted that and now the wire is continuous. I now have 12 volts between the positive side of the solenoid and the yellow and red wire. My neutral cut off switch isn't in circuit and has just been joined together as the engine runs of the boats control box. Could that be the problem? They Are continuos and I have checked all the key terminals as stated in the manual. Still no click from the solenoid or even a spin of the starter. How. Can I test the kill cord?
Cheers

humm, are you sure the solenoid is working, if it isn't clicking perhaps that is your issue?? Are you blowing any fuses? i had a similar issue where a wire went to ground and kept blowing fuses..

Are you getting 12.65 volts at the starter? If so starter pooched and needs rebuilding. Can also test by jumping the starter direct from the battery.

From the sounds of your salt corroded wiring, that is your issue. Clean all connections to a shine at battery, solenoid, starter and ground, and replace any faulty wiring that is corroded or has nicks/cuts/abrasions.

HighTrim is right, you need to start isolating the issue, jumper from the batter to the starter and see if it cranks, if so then starter is probably okay, if it doesn't there is most likely the problem.

If your not getting power to the solenoid then start tracking back front the solenoid to the switch. Could be a bad switch as well.

Don't try and test everything at once. and be sure to use a test light.

Also be sure that your terminals and connections are shiny clean. I know it sounds stupid but even the slightest corrosion will cause these issues.

Re: No luck?

you won't have any power at the starter until the solenoid switches. So if your post indicates that you don't have power at the starter when your switching the key, check to see if you have power on the starting solenoid, if you do have power there, solenoid is shot. replace.
