i have a motot that i need to rebuild the cover suggests that it is a 65 hp however the id plate that is on the transom suggests the motor is rated for a 50 hp motor. i can see a few numbers in the block hoever none of these look like anything to me. it is a 2 cylender motor and the bore size is 3.375. is it possible that someone at some stage might have put a 65 hp cover on a 50 hp motor?

the piston that came out of it had 2 holes in the skirt and the top ring was extreemly close to the top of the piston. dont know if this narrows it down at all????

and also the cover suggests magna power 2 : what does this look like and did this only come out on the 65 hp motors?
this motor is a chrysler motor.

Re: no motor id plate? help please

There are others more qualified to id your motor but I'll try to get you started.
Your motor is a 49.9 cube.My after market service manual indicates the 49.9 cu in motors 55,60 and 65 hp have magna power or prestolite ignition.Tillotson WB29Acarbs are used on 65 hp.WB 23A on early 60hp,WB27A on later 60s,WB27A or WB27B on 55HP.Hope this helps some.
