I was returning to port last night when my instrument panel went out. Fuel guage, starter, speedometer and tacometer were all working but the rest of the panel was gone. I had no navigation lights, anchor lights, docking lights, Bilge pUmp, etc..... After about fifteen minutes some things would return for a short period of time before quitting again. Does anyone know what the problem may be or how to troubleshoot this.

Thank You

Re: No Navigation

were you anywhere near the bermuda triangle or did you see any strange lights hovering in the air following you? :p

- Do you have a single battery or dual batteries?
- Was there any water in the bilge area?
- Are in salt or fresh water?

I am going down the path of: in a dual battery sytstem I have seen corrosion (from salt water) or extra water in the bilge causing the battery switch(es) to go bad. When it is on the edge it could open and close the connection due to the movement of the boat. this would explain half the system going out and then coming back.

-- just a thought -- If this isn't it I would start tracing some wires and find where the troubled systems all have a common connection point. You will problable find something loose or corroded.

Re: No Navigation

It sounds like there is a loose ground wire on your instrument panel. Check between the last working device and the ones that failed. Your problem may be there.

Re: No Navigation

Learned the same hard lesson. Now I always keep a navigational 'flash light' with red/green glass and run by batteries. Good in an emergency. Keep up on the battery condition. Boought it at Big R but you should find it at any sporting goods. Good in an emergency.
