No Need for Tools and Service Manuals . . .

I was cruising down the Automotive aisles at Walmart yesterday and took notice of all the things that you can get to 'fix' your engine. It seems like no matter what is wrong with it, there is something you can just 'pour in' to fix it.

I guess the garage full of tools, all the service manuals and special knowledge is becoming a thing of the past

Here are a few examples . . .

How often do we see threads about overheating and cooling system problems? Try this stuff . . .

Head gasket problems ? No problem, just pour this stuff in . . . it's 'permanent' you know . . .

Engine performance problems, poor compression, loss of power? No need to tear the engine down, this will fix it . . .

Engine is not working? this should 'repair' it . . .

THe sad part is that a lot of folks believe that those products will actually work wonders. :blue:

Those are all good examples of what I like to call Shade Tree Mechanic's Jeanie in a bottle. Or as they used to say in the old west Snake Oil!!

We live in a culture that are slowly moving away from self reliance/responsibility...into a world where everything is be taken care of! It's that way BIG TIME in medicine!! Just give me my quick fix and I'll go back to McDonald's for BREAKFAST___X_LUNCH__X__DINNER__X__...Sad thing!

:facepalm: The problem with the Bars Leak, it had a tendency to clog up the heater core.People back in the old days used it religiously.Then they resorted to soldering off the vanes in the rad. What i didn't see there was the old STP oil additive
