Hello all. I have a 2006 Johnson 150 2-Stroke Saltwater Edition. Model # J150PXSDD. The problem is that the no oil light keeps coming on when I am on my way back to the dock. Here is the scenario. After being out all day with no problems, I cruise in to my creek from bay at 4500rpm, no alarm. Slow down to 1800rpm for about 20min, no alarm. Slow down to 900rpm for about 2min, motor starts to sound lean, alarm sounds. I shut motor down immediately, prime oil bulb, restart, lots of smoke. I continue to my dock for about 5 minutes, alarm sounds. I shut it down, restart without priming, good smoke. Here is what I have done already to rule out other causes besides the pump. I have cleaned the oil reservoir, changed the oil filter, replaced the oil priming bulb, replaced the oil supply line, replaced the fuel priming bulb, replaced the fuel supply lines, replaced all clamps, inspected the electrical connectors, removed and cleaned the pulse limiter, and thoroughly primed both the fuel and oil systems. The only components I have not replaced yet are the oil pick up assembly and the fuel pump. I haven't replaced the pump yet because it is only 13 months old. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone think that the vent cap could cause this problem? I have not replaced the cap yet. If so, is there any way to test the vent?

Re: No oil alarm at idle.

If you can get an OEM service manual there is a test in it for checking the oms oil consumption. This would tell you if it's using the proper amount of oil or not. If you suspect the cap on the oil tank either loosen it or take it off and go for a run. Last but not least just because the oms is only 13 months old doesn't mean that it didn't go bad. I've seen this happen to many times with "new" oms pumps.
