No one Help!1973 40hp norseman starting problems

:mad:Hi all I have a 1973 40hp norseman It is number 40354D
I have changed the points coils and condensers new plugs j4c and new impeller and carb kit. Now when I start it up with a electric start i can pull start it up all day long. But if i leave it over night and try starting it up by pull start it wont start any ideas.

Please explain your starting procedure in exact detail. Sounds like a choke problem to me.

y sorry if i start the motor choke on then after about a couple of turns then off in th morning it wont start buy pull start but electric start it takes time but after about 10 sec it starts then after it has started it start with pull start all day

You are not giving her enough choke when you pull start cold, Bert.

ya tried it choked for about 5 min of pulling and just used electric start it wont start with pull till after is it cause its an bigger motor mybe i dont no thank you

thanks compression is grate and spark is to and when it is started it runs grate

You need a stronger arm, Bert. That is a pretty big engine to pull start from cold.

I have the same problem with my 1963 Big Twin 40HP.

It wont start by pull starting or takes a long time first thing in the morning or the first time starting after an over night sit, But if I start it first with the electric starter (it starts very easily) she will start all day on one pull even after siting for an hour or two. My motor has no generator on it so I like starting as many times as I can with the pull starter wile on the water. Leaving the battery power for emergencies and other electronics.
