NO PEE HOLE (OWI)9.9 Johnson 1976

K I'm going to install a Overboard Water Indicator aka Pee Hole.

But my Question is when I test the pickup tube for blockage by blowing into it;it takes a lot of pressure to get any air through. Is the thermostat closed? Or should it always blow freely? Tried water, tried air comp, tried sucking with vacuum all same results. Did manage to blow about 500ml of water through pickup by mouth.

Is this normal?

Jon....I would ask first, where did you tap in to the block to get the tell tale? On the 9.9/15's, the tap is usually at the bottom of the exhaust cover.

In the water jacket cover sideplate. Have not done it yet.
(Should I not be able to blow into pickup tube with ease?)

Not sure about your Hohnson , but on my 35 merc I was able to blow thru the tube that plugs into the top of the water pump with ease. I was checking the condition of my impellor. It was ok so I blew tru it to check for any blockage & found no resistance.

were you blowing into the motor or down into the impeller?
