I would first check for power at the switch you should have it coming in and going out

turning over means there is power at the switch and power being applied to the yellow/red solenoid wire.. Test the "I" post for 12V ,this should have a purple wire and a 20A fuse. The purple wire goes to the electric choke first, then a resistance wire to the + side of the coil

if it is turning over you are getting power the the slave solenoid. The slave should provide voltage to the coil + while the starter is spinning. Does the engine try to start when it to turning over?

The switch has 3 posts, B battery red or orange
I ignition purple wire and fuse
S solenoid
If the key switch has power to fire the solenoid and no voltage on the I terminal the I terninal is dead internally or you have the switch wired incorrectly.

OK, the 485 is a 470 type engine that should get 12v from the slave solenoid when the engine so being turned over by the starter. Get a voltmeter and check for voltage on the coil when the engine is turning over. If you have voltage and no spark, look at the points. You can also run a temporary jumper directly from the battery to the coil + to look for spark.

Hi there! Please help! Glastron bayflite 1973, I have a Mercruiser 140 1979ish model year, and I am not getting power to coil. I can hot wire and run but it bypasses the resistance circuit and ends up melting my coil.. please help I believe the starter solenoid "I" terminal is dead.. I have 12v all over but not on the I terminal. Key switch cranks engine but no spark

Hi -- Welcome
You should start your own thread for a new problem -- the one your posting on was last used in 2016 and using it is called " Hijacking "
