When I put the engine in reverse it does not have any throttle to go in reverse.

1993 Evinrude 175 Looper Ocean Pro

It also spun out of gear today after attempting to plane off.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Maybe the shear pin in the propeller hub?

motor does not have a shear pin, it has splines on the propshaft. throttle cable adjustment may get you a little speed in reverse, but most are just for manovering the dock. reverse is not the brake, do not approach something faster than you are willing to hit it.

depending on your hull and motor set up, it could have just ventilated, and lost grip. it also could be a spun prop hub.
but if it ran good the rest of the day, i would say ventalation.

Re: No power in reserve

So you think I had the trim set too far down? I did adjust the trim and the thing did not come out of gear, Once it got going it did not come out of gear. It was my first time taking this boat out so I am still trying to figure things out, like the best trim.

How do I figure out what is the best trim for this vessle? Its a 1984 Bayliner Trophy with a 1993 Evinrude Ocean Pro 175 on the back. I also put a hyrdofoil on the outdrive to help it plane faster and help on the gas usage. It planes right away with this bad boy but I wonder if it is causing the ventilation issue you mention

Any more help on this would be greatly appreciated

Re: No power in reserve

I dont know but maybe I should look at it...
What do you think could be the problem there?
I am assuming you aere talking out the control at the helm to put the engine in gear...?

The engione goes in reverse, it just has no force to go in reverse. In the driveway when I put her in reverse she seems to have power, not as much as forward though. I need reverse full power.

Anybody have any good advise for me here? Im lost.
