:'( I was going across the lake with my 79 merc 20hp and suddenly it revved real high while in gear so I shut it off and checked my prop, I thought I hit a thick patch of weed, cuz this is what usually what does that, but there was none, so I started it back up and now I can only go trolling speed before if revs out and won't move. what happened and what is it going to cost me?

Spun prop? May have hit something and prop has released from the center rubber bushing. Mark the prop and the rubber center bushing, take it for a spin and check and see if the marks stil line up.

Re: no power to prop

so the prop needs work?
I don't think the gears are damaged, they sound smooth and the prop turn manually the one way with a ratcheting action.
