no power to tilt control, gauges and engine

My 2 year old Yamaha 150 HP (on a 2 yo boat) appears to have run the dual batteries flat.

There was just enough power to lower the engine, but the electronic gauges did not light up and no starter. Charged batteries, tried a replacement battery, checked fuses under dash, but no change. Nothing on tilt control either, although the wipers and bilge pump can be switched on and work.

Is there another breaker that I am missing that may have gone? Or is it something more serious that is over-riding everything? Is there anything in the battery switch that could stop current flow?

Appreciate any leads.

My only thought on this is that you possibly have a bad or loose connection somewhere.

I would start at your batteries and make sure everything is secure. Then check your console area where the battery line comes in to the fuse block etc.

To have a fresh battery and nothing makes me think of a loose connection.

Re: no power to tilt control, gauges and engine

Thanks for the reply.

Afraid it is not a loose connection, at least to the auxillary power. Voltmeter confirms all is OK to things like wiper, trim tabs, VHF, etc

Problem seems to lie with the power that goes to the engine itself. It simply "dies". Nothing gets to the ignition switch, the power tilt, or the gauges. I am assuming that something is preventing current flow through/to the engine.

What it might be is beyond me. Previous form messages mention a rectifier issue with Yamaha engines.

Any other suggestions out there?

positive wire should run from bat.to solinoid, from there large wire to starter, smaller feed wire to power the wire harness, feeding up to console. do not overomplicate this, if you have another problem stator /rectifier ect. it would not affect the ability to trim motor or crank motor, try jumping the solinoid, i am most assured that it is a connectivity issue, good luck

Same thing happened to me today while out on the water. I was just about ready to call sea tow and decided to look at the batt one more time. Turns out there was bad ground wire could not tell from just looking at it but I wiggled it and sure enough it fell right off. Cut the end off and re-attached and presto I was back in business. saved me 200$ :)

Wow,

Two perfect suggestions. The problem was a loose ground wire. However, the problem was tucked away in the engine wiring adn not so obvious.

Thanks so much for the advice.

Best
