clams.. my 86 or close 115 inline 6 ..got funny on me the last of the season...sometimes i would lose fuel gauge ,if i cut it off i had nothing...no tilt no crank...if i left it running no gauge...no tilt ...but running...my buddy had a 200 merc he said it was a solenoid on the starboard side...it is very intermittent...the boat is in my garage and i check every coupla' days...still goes up, still got gauge...don't dare crank.plenty of time as boating don't start in maine till' ice out..may is usually good!!!

It may sound silly but you might want to check your ground wire. Same thing happened to me and I checked everything but the ground only to have a pro. catch it.

Intermittent problems are tricky sometimes. You just have to stay with it and it will do what you want it to do. I would check all grounds plugs and wires first.

Checking means to disconnect the cables, clean them and reconnect tightly. Disconnect connectors and inspect. Clean if necessary and reconnect.
