I recently rebuilt my 70 hp evinrude when I start the engine it warms up and runs fine (at idle) when I shift to F/R and try to accelerate it boggs down and dies, if how ever if I tickle the choke it will slowly come up to speed (plane) and run fine. I'm thinking Carbs or fuel pump. any one have any suggestions ?

Re: No power when accelerating

Dirty carbs or carb linkage synchronization.

OR the timer plate is sticking and the carb throttles are opening before it goes to full spark advance. This is fairly common.

Re: No power when accelerating

FR probably right on as usual. When were the carbs last rebuilt? May be time for a bath and rebuild. Check to see if the timer base (starboard side, under the edge of the flywheel, linked to the throttle lever) moves smoothly without sticking when you advance the throttle.

Take the airbox cover off & observe whether the throttle plates are parallel.

Also, the timer base should start it's travel *before* the throttle plates start to open, else she'll fall flat when you try to accelerate.

Re: No power when accelerating

Thanks for the information ,the carbs have not been touched in a long time, I found one of the Idle jets plugged and not allowing fuel to flow freely .
Thanks again for the info
