No prime in gas line

I have a 1993 70 hp Johnson. I attempted to prime the engin with the bulb. I would not prime. I checked for leaks around the bulb and all other connections. I took the cover off, and when I squezed the bulb, it sounded like air was sucking in near the carbs.
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

thanks, bruce728

Assuming you have gas in that tank...... disconnect the hose from the outlet end of that fuel primer bulb temporarily, hold the bulb in a vertical position with the outlet end facing up, pump the bulb until fuel starts to flow, then replace the hose.

that is interesting Joe. Can you explain a little more. What valve? The piece that plugs into the engin?

Bruce... Levi's speaking of (I believe) a valve in the fuel primer bulb. There is one in each end of it.

yeah i took the primer bulb apart and the valves inside werent holding pressure so i replaced the bulb it was an older one and i think the ethanol got to it .... primed up fine after that it made a funny whistling sound inside the carb before i changed it if that helps you identify the problem
