No response from ignition and no response from T/T switch

I have a 1986 tracker 1800 w/ 150 Johnson. Boat ran fine all day today. Got to the dock, turned it off, brought the trailer down, jumped in the boat to start it up and drive on the trailer. Turned the key and got nothing. No response at all, not a click, nothing. I then attempted to raise the motor and just walk the boat on the trailer and I got no response from that switch, plus nothing from the bow T/T switch or the motor T/T switch. I checked all the other electrical equipment and all is working fine. Just my ignition and all three T/T switches are unresponsive. Would some one please point me in the right direction to start looking for what my problem is....thank you.

I had a similar issue on an inboard recently. Previous Owner had bypassed the kill switch and the splice corroded. You might check by making sure you have power to the ignition switch. Then make sure you have power out when in the on position.

You should check the fuse under the cowl at the engine. It controls power to the engine systems and ignition switch. Do the gauges response when the key is turned on?

No the gauges don't respond. The tach is frozen at 3000 rpm. I figured I lost power some place, I just can't trace it. I've been looking for fuses, but I'm having a hell of a time finding any.

You aren't looking very hard. The one you are after is under the engine cover. Put your finger on the red battery cable and walk into the engine cover. That cable connects to the starter solenoid. On that same terminal is a smaller gauge wire. Now walk your finger down that wire to where you will find a fuse.

After removing 100 yards of electrical tape I found the rubber boot housing the blown fuse. All is back in running order. Thanks for the help Silvertip!!

Just because you found the blown fuse does not mean you are done with this problem. WHY the fuse blew is what you should be trying to determine. Otherwise you should carry a box of them as it will likely blow again.

When I looked under the dash I noticed the warning buzzer disconnected. Now when she starts up and is running the buzzer never shuts off. Perhaps I have a bad ground? I'm not sure how to test this problem. Everything on the boat works properly. Just the damn buzzer wont shut the hell up.

Has the oil injection system been eliminated so you pre-mix the fuel? If it has, then the "oil" related alarm connection should have been disconnected, not the alarm itself because it also serves as an overheat warning.

no it's still set up as oil injected.

Disconnect the overheat sensor on the engine. If the buzzer stops, check the sensor as it may be stuck closed which activates the alarm. If the buzzer still sounds, reconnect the overheat sensor and disconnect the oil injection harness. If the buzzer still sounds, it is probably toast. DON'T FORGET TO RECONNECT THE OIL INJECTION HARNESS.
