Describe the control unit in detail, mfg and general description.

Console mounts usually increase throttle without shifting by pulling the lever sideways in neutral, then increasing throttle. Some others have a knob that one pulls out, then incrasing throttle.

The regular OMC control boxes have a small warm up lever to apply throttle only.

ok right now i dont know the mfg,it isnt a transom mount, its a side mount, there is a button in the center of the throttle handle at the base, but i believe i did pull on it and tried advancing.i did attempt to pull it sideways and it moved over some but it still went into gear when i advanced it.

pudlejumper you have the older type single throw handle it sounds like to me. Newer ones have a lever for throttle and a lever for forward/reverse. If you push yours forward or backward it is supposed to go in those gears. It should only start in neutral (straight up). Are you having a problem with it dying when you put it in gear? You should also have a warm up lever toward the back bottom of the box to help start/warm it up. If you need a higher idle there should be a black thumb screw on the bottom front that you can use for adjustment.

You should not be able to rev it in neutral. Are you having a problem with it dying when you put it in gear? You should also have a warm up lever toward the back bottom of the box to help start/warm it up. If you have "push to choke" at the key, would you still have the warm-up lever on control?

Yes, push in key choke will still have a warmup/idle lever. On yours try just pushoing the button in and the handle forward. You shouldn't have to pull the handle sideways.
