Way to go,
Wife and I are still doing Adkins, but I get chocolate or sweet tooth cravings at night that are real bad.

Hubby and I are still running our 3 miles 6 days a week. I don't think we'll make our goal of a 10K by April. Maybe by October. But we sure feel more energetic and younger. :D

Today is day 32! Have made Month #1 Without so much as a drage. Quit Code Turkey 1-1-04

eurolarva, glad to see your method is working for you this time. You obviously have the motivation this time to make it happen. That is the only thing different this time quitting for me, and the only reason I will make it, I finally have true motivation.

TPD211
How has this been working for you guys?

Bassy
My neice 25yo, just ran a marathon in jamaca last week for the Amarican heart association, raised few thousand bucks for the charity. She started training one year ago and ran a 5 hour marathon.

Hey ndemge. I am glad this is working for you as well. I have gotten a lot of encouragement from a lot of people. Thanks to everyone who posted showing their support. Congratulations Bassy. Excercise is the next goal for me. With all the fog you are having out there I would think it would be hard to go out and run in bad weather.

After the first two weeks I think the worst is behind. There was a lot of built up aggression and a very short fuse. I am preparing my apologies to my coworkers now for putting up with me during this.

Hey ndemge, that's great about your neice. That is a huge accomplishment. Was it her first? Maybe your neice can give us some tips on training. Anything will help. Thanks.
I ran 10K's in my teens, 20 years ago, and this is harder than I remember. Probably because I let myself get so out of shape over the years. But I'd really like to meet this goal. I know I will, just wondering if there is a better way of training for it.
Thanks eurolarva. It sure helps one feel more energetic and calm. I came home from teaching Friday so wound up. I came home and put on my running shoes and went out and ran. I calmed right down and actually felt happy after. Funny how exercise makes you feel like that. It's a great thing! :D
As for the fog.. some of those days it's difficult to catch my wind, but I walk if I can't run. I still get out there. :)
Bassy

Re: No Smoking or other resolutions

TDP and anyone else on Atkins, be careful about not eating ENOUGH carbs. You MUST eat some carbs every day or your blood sugar levels may get dangerously low. Even if you aren't diabetic, you can have low blood sugar problems. A friend of mine collapsed because he was on the Atkins diet and his blood sugar got too low. Just be careful. A way to prevent this I guess would be to do something like keep a bag of hersheys kisses around and eat like one every hour or so. A piece of whole wheat bread would be better though. Look for the 50 calorie per slice kind. I've been watching what I eat since Jan. 1st and have lost quite a bit. I'm not on any special diet or anything. I just eat between 1600-2200 calories per day and work out four days a week. Supposedly, with my activity level, I need between 3000 and 3500 calories per day. Even before I started working out, I had noticed that I was shedding the pounds. I eat anything I want so long as I stay in my calorie range. It was kinda tough at first until my stomach shrunk, but now I feel fine. I'm losing that excess baggage and I can still eat FAST FOOD and SWEETS. You just have to choose wisely to keep from getting hungry. It's as simple as this. If you eat more calories than you burn, you gain weight. If you eat less calories than you burn, you loose weight. That's the bottom line. It doesn't really matter where the calories come from. Be it fat, carbs, or protein. Protein has the same energy content per gram as carbs do. So too much protein can cause you to gain weight also. Also, eating low engery density foods will help you feel just as full with a lot less calories. Things with a lot of water weight are good for this. Even milk can be great for this. It has a fairly decent energy density level to help fill you up, and unlike cokes, it has a good deal of protein in it so it actually holds you over. Cokes may fill you up, but they fade off quick. Milk will stick around longer. Drinking LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of water will help too. I feel so much better now and it's great. Good luck and please be safe about it!! ;)

Re: No Smoking or other resolutions

Way to go catfish1. I just went to target to get the two milligram nicorette instead of the 4. Pretty cool target brand is half price as the nicorette brand. Hopefully this will be the last package I have to chew.

I did the adkins thing when I was 17 and went into a severe case of hypo glucemia. Blood sugar dropped to darn near zero. We were out looking for lost hunters in northern minnesota in 25 inches of snow. I noticed my heart rate went to over 120 and was having trouble breathing. Was lucky one of the guys with us was a paramedic. He gave me some orange drink that had lots of sugar in it and after drinking it I went back to normal. If you are going to do the Adkins thing talk to your doctor on how much carbs you should take and what signs to look for so you dont get into trouble.
