My motor has been running fine all season... The other day I took it out on the water and got to my spot... But it would not start on the way back. It turns over fine, but will not even make an attempt to fire up. I replaced both plugs, but I dont have any spark.

Any thoughts?

I would start with the kill switch. What year is the motor? Is it electric start?
Unplug the power wire at the motor and see if it will start by hand.

The model is J28ESLED 1996.

I dont have a kill switch (that I know of)... the throttle assembly only has 2 cables, no wires. There is a wire harness from the motor, which runs to a key switch only.

I used to hand crank (rip cord) the motor for while, since the starter was bad. When I did this, I needed to have the key turned though. My starter has since been fixed and working fine. My choke still works, as I can see a shot a gas each time. And I have tried to use the cord and it still wont start. Not even a cough.

Disconnect the black/yellow wire from the pulse pack and see what happens. This eliminates the boat wiring and ect.

Re: No Spark - 28hp Johnson SPL

Just want to make sure I am on the right page. I attached afew pictures below.

My pulse pack wires dont quite match the CDI sheet... but the wires are all there. The colors might just be worn/washed with age. When you say disconnect the black/yellow wire, I seem to see several of them. One of them is separate and looks like a ground. The others are in the main harness. If its one of the one's from the main harness, how would I disconnect them without cutting them? Or can I just unplug the whole plug?

If I'm not even on the right page, let me know.

Nice pics and yes you're on the right track.
The Black/Yellow wire is the one in the middle in pic 2&4, which corresponds to pin E in the diagram.
I wouldn't cut the wire.
Disconnect the plug and carefully push out the pin (for black/yellow wire) from the connector.
Or you could push out the corresponding pin on the mating connector, whichever is easier for you.
I think the male pins push out easy with needle nose pliers.
Then reconnect the plug for the test.
