2001 J135VRO Engine was running great and then quit.

After I got towed back in I checked and had no spark on any of the cylinders. Disconnected the kill switch and still no spark.

According to the manual I need to test the stator and power pack using a peak voltage meter. I checked around and they are hard to find and very expensive. Im hoping there is some way to figure out which part is bad without having to throw a bunch of money at it.

Supposedly the stator was replaced just before I bought it, so I think it is the power pack that is bad. But at $208, would be a foolish thing to replace without testing..

Hopefully someone wiser and more experienced can impart some wisdom and give some points on the methods to test without the PVM.

Re: No spark - How to test stator / power pack

HELP .... I finally broke down and got a DVA adapter so I can test the stator.

Here are the readings.. im on the fence about whether or not the stator is bad.

Resistance is 532 ohms which is in spec

Peak voltage is is 146 but fluctuates from 141 to 151. The manual is calling for 150+ volts.. is this close enough?

I checked the timer base and it shows peak voltage of .7 volts which is above the spec of .5 so im guessing it is ok.

Should I replace the stator or powerpack?
