now im sure this question has been asked a lot, and i have tried some of the trouble shooting found in other forums here. but i have a few questions that may help me figure out my problem. first off i have a 1970 Merc 80 HP 800 thunderbolt. i just bought it mounted to the first boat i have ever owned and was told the engine ran. after figuring out that the ignition and all wires were shot inside the controls, i had the engine hot wired and running within about an hour. when i started the motor the battery was weak so i rope started it. with ignition wires twisted together. it ran for approx. 1 minute before i shut it off. since then i have not been able to get any spark whatso ever. i replaced the stator and the new rectifier/regulator will be here today (does this actually have anything to do with spark? or is this just for charging the battery?) i tried the troubleshooting i have seen for the CDI box, jump white and brown then spark black off a ground. to witch i am supposed to see spark? correct? i do not see any spark what so ever but i can hear what sounds like a small spark as black hits ground. i ordered new CDI box should be here in a couple days. another troubleshooting article i read somewhere (i believe CDI) says the green wire from the CDI box to the coil should ready 200v while cranking. is this right? i am only reading .8V on that green wire.like i said, i had it running once so i cant imagine it could be something too complicated to make it spark again. any help with this would be fantastic.

sorry i forgot a couple things.Does this motor have a Mercury switch? the way i understand it, it is the tilt switch if the engine tilts too far? if so, where would i find this? also CDI installation instructions for the new CDI box say to connect 1 yellow wire from the stator to the brown wire on the box. is that necessary?
