I have a 1980 140 mercury #5625151
I have no spark on 5&6. I have put 1 new pack on(a mechanic said that was the problem) :(
I checked stator it was ok by the manual. Started checking trigger the manual said should be 1100-1400 my was 1500 on 2 of the test, But I got 0 on 1 test. I was told that triggers hardly ever go bad. I switched trigger leads on 1 pack and got fire. I switched on the other pack got nothing. I can switch the coil wires on that pack and get fire. Somebody please help!!!!

Re: no spark on 5&6

Triggers hardly ever go bad, but the wires to them are constantly moving about and they can break inside the insulation. That's probably your problem.

It is a possibility that the switchbox that you thought was a good one is actually the bad one. before you buy another trigger, try putting the switchbox you took off in place of the one you left on. I still think it's a broken wire to the trigger, but it don't cost nuthin to try. If that turns out to be it, it'll save you some $$$.
