no spark to plugs

I have a 1969 105 chrysler outboard. I get spark from the coil to the coil wire. If I remove the distributer cap I get spark that jumps from the center coil to the outside where the plug wires are connected but when I place the cap back on the distributer I do not get spark to the plugs. I tried it with a screw driver from the plug wire to the end of the plug and also removed the plug to see if it sparked across. I am using a regular automotive coil and condensor. I'd appreciate any help you may have.

Re: no spark to plugs

I changed the points but still no spark to plugs. I have changed the wires plugs and points. The dist cap looks ok did not see any cracks in it. Could it be the timing?

Are your points opening and closing ok?
Your points may be grounding out for some reason.
One thing for sure it is not the timing that causes there to be no fire.

If you have spark to the distributor, then the only thing it can be is the spark plug wires. Although, distributor caps can look good, but be bad. Also, Check for something grounding out when you put the cap back on(Pinched Wire, Bare wire, Ect).
