Hey all,
New to the site. I have a 1977 Evinrude 35hp model 35753c electric start. The motor was my Dads and it has been sitting for awhile. I pulled flywheel. lightly cleaned and changed coils, they were rusted and separated. I tried pull starting and I got a spark when the flywheel stopped turning. Any thoughts on what would cause that ? Haven't changed power pack yet, but, that's what i'm thinking. Thank You

Disable the kill button just to rule that out. Is the timer plate wobbly?

Plate feels good. Another question, trying to bypass switch also. I tied the white wire, red black stripe, and purple white stripe together. I left out the black and black and yellow stripe. Is this correct? No kill button, pre kill switch. Simplex controls. Think thats the name.

I saw the old controls but your key switch grounds out the motor to kill it. Came with the black plug I presume?

This part failed this weekend on me creating havoc...that's why I asked about the timer plate. With the motor off and you rock the flywheel back and forth, observe the timer plate.

The plastic ring cracks and breaks up.

Yes black plug. I will check plate in a few days and report back.
