No Spark "Update"

I have a 1984? Mercury 35hp. when she is cold I have no spark, have tested this. put her out in the sun for a couple of hours she then has a spark and will fire no problems once it has fired the once it works like a dream for the rest of the day, :) any idea's on what is wrong would be much appreciated.<br />Thanks for your help, I have been waighting on my Seloc manual, now have it but cant find my S/ number in it. My number is 6577971 does any one know the year from this ? :confused:

Have you tested for spark when motor is cold or only suspect bad spark. Take plug out of cylinder. Connect plug to boot and ground the threads and try to test for spark again in a dark area.

I had the same year 15hp Mariner with the same problem. Used a Solec manual and ohmmeter to test coils, stator and CDI unit. Ohmmeter readings on the CDI would vary depending on the temperature in my garage. Good readings when warm, poor results when cold. Replaced the CDI (not cheap!)and never had <br />another problem.
