I have a 1995 Mariner 50HP Its been running fine starts with a flick of a key, a couple of days ago it wouldn't start after running it all day. I stopped for about ten minutes I pulled out the plugs looked a little wet (they were new plugs) after a little while of cranking it over it started. I got it on the trailer and shut it off and hit the key and it started. I rebuilt the fuel pump and new fuel filter put the water hose on it and it started. I shut it off for a few minutes and it won't start I took a plug out and there isn't much if any spark.
What could it be?

Re: No Spark

I'm in the process of fixing this on my motor. I thought I had spark on the top cylinder but had the gap set VERY short. Read here and realized that it should be 7/16". My bottom cyclinder will get a good blue spark at 3/4 if need be. The top won't spark at all.

Read the thread "At a Loss" in this section and you can see how I tested a few things to find out my coil was bad. I ordered it at NAPA yesterday afternoon and it came in this morning. If it's a bad coil, it's a simple fix. My 40HP 1973 motor's coil was a bit less than $20, so not too expensive either.

Re: No Spark

I didnt have spark in all three cylinders. I dropped mine off at the machanic yesterday. I all so bought a tach a few weeks ago and the wiring harness couldn't get it to work.

Coyote, you need to find a shop that can repair a problem not just change all the parts on a system
