no spark

Just bought a 1991 Prowler Bass Boat. As far as I know there were no electrical problems with it. A buddy of mine brought it to Texas for me from Michigan. When in Michigan he said it rained and it got "some" water in the boat and he used the bilge pump to get it out. Now, there is no spark in anything--trolling motor, lights, depth finder--nada. I've checked as best I can and don't see any loose wires, etc. The boat doesn't have a motor yet, I'm waiting on that to get here. I put both the trolling motor and the main motor battery on a charger but I can't even get the lights to flicker. Anyone have any suggestions where to start looking? There are a lot of wires joined together with wire nuts. Could it be water got in them and hasn't dried yet? I'd sure appreciate any suggestions. I'm going to have a marine shop install the engine. I know they'll have to install new controls, etc., but will they charge me an arm and a leg to track down a short if that's what it is? thanks, blt

Re: no spark

As long as you have time while waiting for the motor, why not replace the wiring that is there. Get rid of the wire nuts and do it the right way. New wire, terminal strip(s), fuses, proper connections.

Did this to my old boat and it sure made things nice.
