I have a 1978 140 hp Johnson Outboard that lost spark. I replaced the power pack and that did no good. I replaced the stator and the thing ran like champ! For one day. Then the stator melted again. I figured that the problem was the rectifier and after doing some resistance test it appeared to be bad. I put on a new stator and rectifier and just knew that I was good to go. So far I have ran the battery dead twice trying to crank her and all I get are a few single sparks every once in a while. I think 4 total. Can some one please help me before I turn this thing into an artifial reef? Thanks
