1990 Johnson 175 gt---- Could not start this weekend. Used WD 40 in carb--this helped once before, pulled plugs, very wet. Turned over motor saw no spark, should I have seen one even though plug still wet? Attached volt meter red to spark plug boot, black to ground, turned over--nothing. How do I check kill switch?

Re: no spark

To check the kill switch. Disconnect the black yellow wire from the engine.

Check battery connections to make sure they are proper.

Get back to us when you find out more.

TMD

Re: no spark

You should have a top mounted powerpack. Just behind the flywheel. Take the cover off. The black yellow should be accessable from there.

TMD

Re: no spark

Powerpack is under flywheel, I will have to pull to remove cover, however there are 3 wires that go from pack to starboard terminal block, these wires are yellow, yellow/gray stripe, gray. Tried removing yellow gray on one side only still no spark. Also at terminal I checked for power at all wires and only the red has power, why do the others not have power?

Re: no spark

You do not have to remove the flywheel to get the cover off. Also the black/yellow is right near the rear of the pack.

TMD

Re: no spark

Thank you for the help, and I don't mean to annoy you, however there is not enough room between top of 2 bolts to loosen (.050). I was able to loosen 4 towards rear of pack but other 2 at front closest to crank. Is there not another way at the switch itself? Thanks

Re: no spark

Have you checked the lanyard stop switch at the front by your control box? If you have the push on grommet...it might not be pushing far enough anymore...there is an update.

As for the black and yellow. There should be a black/yellow comming out of the harness. It then runs to the black/yellow in the powerpack.

TMD
