no spark

i have got a 18hp fastwin evinrude which will not give out a spark i have changed the points but thats it and still no spark what else could it be the outside covering on the coils is cracked any help would be appreciated<br /> thanks steve

You need new coils. Water will intrude the cracked ones and short them out internally. Sometimes that doesn't happen and instead they arc externally. Either way, they don't start your engine. Iboats or NAPA autoparts 18-5181 (you'll need two) or one from your local Bomby dealer. Iboats wants around $17 each for 'em.<br />Points to .020" and there's hardly any thing else left in the system.
