Hi im working with a 1972 65hp johnson outboard and I recently replaced the fuel pump. It started and ran fairly well before I replaced it but now it won't start at all. It last ran a few months ago. Plugs seemed wet so I dried them and cranked engine with them out but that didnt help. Motor doesn't seem to be catching when im cranking it at all.

Load test the battery.-----Take starter apart for inspection and an ohm test.-----You are sure the hoses for the pump are on the correct nipples.

Hi guys, got it working. Turns out that the pump wasn't screwed tightly. I could see a small leak around one of the fuel pump seals, so I tightened all the pump screws and the two mount screws for the pump by hand. I also recharged the battery even though it showed 12.6 volts. I also sprayed starter fluid at first to check for spark and it fired. So then I put the throttle lever in run and flicked the full choke a few times while cranking and she fired right up and kept on running.

Sounds a success, keep those battery wires clean and the connections and you will be in the zone
