No start good solenoid

Got a 20hp mercury, every now and then the motor would not turn over when using the push button, now it won't turn over at all with the push button but I can jump the solenoid and start it. Checked all the fuses, checked for power to.the solenoid from the button, all.good. went ahead and replaced the solenoid but still won't turn over. Something else I'm missing in the starter system?

Is the black wire from the solenoid going to a good ground and are the terminals on it crimped tight, no corrosion, clean?

Yeah, good ground, do.these have a neutral safety switch on them like cars do?

probably... all tha big motors (only ones i've dealt with) do...

That might very well be the culprit. Next time it acts up wiggle the shift lever back and forth while pushing the button and see if it kicks over.
