WHen cold starts right up. Runs great. Rode it around on the lake today for 2 hours at full throttle. WOT 5,000 rpms. Let it idle around the lake at 1,000 rpms for about 15 minutes did great. No missing backfires nothing. Once we shut it off though it won't restart. THe best we could do is to put ther fast idle up and start it by pushing in the choke. Will run then but as soon as put the idle lever down it stalls. Let the motor cool cranks right up runs great. THe water comes out the pee hole steady at all times. Compression 130 all cylinders great spark. ANy ideas?

Re: no start when hot

you have good compression, did you check the spark while it was warm and would not start. (could be coil or power pack getting warm and failing) if you had good spark when it would not start, then you have a fuel delivery problem. carbs.

Yes I did spark was good when hot. All 4 coils replaced 2 weeks ago. Will get the carbs rebuilt then. The boat has been sitting since last September unstarted. When I got it a month ago the gas was bad in it. Did drain it and put fresh gas in it though. THanks for the help.
JUst out of couriosity what goes wrong with the carbs when the motor is warm that won't alow it to start? I am trying to learn and gain as much knowledge as possible.

idle jets get clogged when old gas turns to varnish as it evaporates. cold start with choke plates closed, engine gets plenty of gas through other passages (I couldn't point 'em out to you, though.)
