I have a 1984 Procraft 1750 V
The Motor is an Evenrude 140hp (Model E140TLCRD)

No start with Key. The Solenoid is brand new. The Ignition is brand new.
I can jump the solenoid and it fires up like a dream and runs like a dream.

any deep thoughts jack handy?

Thanks in advance!

Not a pro here, but one thought that comes to mind is the inline fuse.. Pretty sure there should be a wire coming off the solenoid (same post as positive batt) that has a fuse inline. Red/purple 16ga, then goes back up the harness feeding power to remote for key switch.

Might not be your issue, but worth checking anyway..
Hope it helps!

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... At the key switch, is there power at the red wire on the switch,..??

When turned to Start, is there power on the yellow/ red wire,..??

From the key switch, the yellow/ red wire runs through the neutral safety switch in the control, then to the excite terminal on the solenoid,.....

OOOOOOOOK.... so I"m back.

We went on vacation, and after a week in Florida, I thought I'd spend a day on a small lake (large pond?) near the house, see if the boat leaks anywhere, run it through it's paces. ... 3 hours tied to a dock with a boat that won't start (Even with Jumping the Solenoid) ... and I took it to the pro's to let them deal with it.

And i'm so very glad I did.... saved my motor.

The motor I have has the VRO system. I did my research, put regular (non-oil) gas in the tank, and .....
I get to the shop, he pops the cowling off the outboard, and the previous owner (long story about THAT guy) had removed the VRO system from the boat, and neglected to tell me about it when I bought it.

Had that motor have started, I'd have been running it with no oil :( ... at least for a few minutes anyways.

But to the topic at hand.. apparently the wiring system was so 'engineered' that it wasnt worth trying to trace the short. It was faster and cheaper in the long run to just rewire it from control to motor, and so they did. Motor cranks up like it was meant to and (after they rebuilt the carbs and flushed the fuel system) the motor runs like melted butter!

Now... on to fix... well.... everything else!!

Wow!!

Yeah.. Sounds like the wiring was butchered...
Glad you took it to a shop in this case....

Expecting VRO and the shop finding it had been converted (which is common) is sure better than not knowing it had been converted, you using plain gas, and having it start for you and run it for 10 minutes (If that...)
could have been a disaster...

Well glad it worked out for you and now it runs!!

On to the "Well, everything else..." LOL :D

Oh.... It's pretty bad!
I should have known when he said his 'Buddy the electrician' tried getting the ignition to work.
*wimper*

1. The Fish Finder isnt working, but I'd like to replace it anyways.

2. The Trolling motor plug gets power, but it doesnt appear that the other controls on the front panel are working.

3. The Tilt/Trim gauge doesnt appear to be working (Though the Tilt Trim does work)

4. Engine Temp Gauge isnt working

5. Speedometer isnt working

6. Bilge Pump doesnt appear to be working (Switch)

7. Live Well and Aerator don't appear to be working.

I'm thinking about updating all the gauges to a matched set and adding some plugs.
Maybe a radio for when I'm cruising not fishing.
Upgrade Upholstery and Carpet.

Very nice. Many thanks!
The rear battery door actualy has a diagram for the boat.
I've searched online and can't find quite the detailed one. (Though I searched for the boat, not the motor.)
I need to get some high quality pictures for preservation and post here for the future use.
