no therostate in motor

just replaced the pee hole tube the other was dry rotted and rerouted it for less restriction, then i decided to look behind the thermostate cover and WOW, there was nothing there, the better part of me thinks there should be one (it is an engine) . so what do you think on this issue, i did put up a tread on restricted water flow b/4.

Needs a stat and if still no water out the telltale and it's not blocked then a water pump. I'd put a stat in it and retest, could be there isn't enough restriction to cause a nice tell tale flow.

like i said b/4 there is water comming out but not a fast stream, i'm just gonna put it in the shop and have them go over it top to bottom.
