No Tilt/Trim and No Cranking - Yahamaha 50 2 Cycle

I was getting ready to go fishing last night and lowered the motor (while on the trailer) to add some 2 cylce oil and the hyrdraulic trim died about 1/4 from the bottom. The engine won't crank and the tilt and trim is dead.
So .. I ran out and bought a battery charger and hooked it up overnight... but this morning's fishing trip was cancelled when I discovered that was not the problem.
Lights, depth sounder, bilge pumps all work fine ... and the battery charger indicated that the battery has full strength (I'm suspecious though).

I use this boat exclusively in saltwater and based on other discussion threads I have a feeling a fuse is gone or a wire connection is bad.

Strange thing is that when I try the switch on the side of the motor to move it up or down I see the fuel gauge fluctuate.
This is a brand new Yamaha 50 2 cycle (2008). I bought the boat in March, so was expecting the battery to last longer... although, I think I have ruled that out.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE --> went outside and took off cover and jiggled wires ... now it is working. But I'm afraid to use the boat now ... what should I do? I feel like I need to track down exactly what wire/connection is behind this.

Start by charging and load testing the battery. It's 2 years old so time to replace it anyway.

If the battery tests ok the likely culprit is the connections at the battery.

Then check the main engine ground on the block. The trim and crank motors get their power from the same place, at the starter relay, so check that.

Yamaha does a good job with sealing their engine harness, but when the engine was rigged the above may have been disturbed.

You said the trim stopped working, but did it suddenly stop or slowly die?
Slowly dying makes me think of bad battery, suddenly stopping connections.

Good luck.
