Help. I've got new plugs, new fuel/tank/oil for my 1996 6hp Evinrude. It starts right away and idles great, but I have no top-end power (nothing above 2300rpm or so). At WOT, it is like at 1/4 throttle. Here's the kicker...sometimes it will give short bursts of thrust and the idle will increase, but then it dies quickly again. Help please!!

Check the link and sync if applicable to make sure it's all working properly.

Perhaps a fuel system service is in order.

Remove, dissassemble, inspect, clean, inspect, reassemble, and adjust carb.

Check fuel line connectors for air leaks.

Check and clean, or replace, fuel filter.

Suspect fuel pump if above repairs don't help.

Most of these items might require that you have a manual at hand. They are available from a click somewhaere right on this webpage.

Is that 6hp. a 2 cylinder. Clean the coil grounds and check all other wire connections and grounds.

Thanks for your help guys! There was dirt/sand/ and a pineneedle in the carburetor...go figure...
I also cleaned out the fuel tank really well. All is functioning very well now. Thanks! And, yes, it is the twin cylinder.
